I'm often contacted by people with sleep problems. The most common sleep problems are not being able to get to sleep or waking during the night, either repeatedly or for long periods of time, the results of this being feeling tired, low in energy and irritable during the day.
Causes of insomnia
Anxiety, stress and depression commonly cause sleep problems and clients I see for these reasons are often struggling with either not getting enough sleep or too much. In these circumstances, sleep is often one of the first areas of life to be impacted. Even those who are not specifically seeking help for sleep issues, anxiety or depression often note disrupted sleep patterns or poor quality of sleep. This is because poor sleep can cause, or worsen the effects of many other conditions.
Why is good sleep so important?
Getting a good night's sleep is widely recognised as being vital to our physical health but it's equally important, if not even more so, for our mental health.
Sleep is important to our ability to cope with the stresses or problems we face every day, at home, at work or in our relationships.
